This April 1st 2012 was the start of the 50th Annual Jinhae/Chinhae South Korea Cherry Blossom Festival. The icon above is the city of Chinhae cherry blossom mascot. You see him everywhere!
On April 1st the trees were budding but there were not any blossoms yet. Micaela and Tim came to visit and we took them all over the city. One week later the cherry blossoms are in full bloom and there are an extra 1-2 million visitors in town. Needless to say it's practically impossible to drive anywhere at the moment. There are food vendors everywhere selling all sorts of things from hot dogs battered with french fries all in one, corn on the cob on a stick, waffles, cotton candy, and something that we are pretty sure is some type of cooked bug...
Here are some pictures from our adventures this past week.
April 1st.
April 1st.
April 6th. The day of the Parade.
The Republic of Korea Navy Marching Band
The US Navy, Oh look! There's Dave!!! I think He is saying, An Yung Ha Se Yo! (or hello)
Some more US Navy enlisted folks, having a good time.
There were lots of costumes and flags in the parade.
This guy was having the most fun because everyone else had to drag him around. Not to self, always strive to represent royalty in a parade, you get to sit down the whole time.
At the end of the parade we went to an authentic Korean BB-Q restaurant. It was quite fun and we had a very nice waiter who thought it was quite funny that we were taking a little video of our adventure.

Due to the number of pictures we took I have decided to split this blog up into two sections. The next section will include all of the blooming flower pictures we took this Saturday and Sunday.
